Page history last edited by RachelW 13 years, 7 months ago

Jacques Cartier was born in 1491 in Saint-Malo in Brittany France, and died September 1, 1557 at the age of 66 years. Jacques biggest accomplishment was in 1534. Cartier sailed for North America on April 20, in search of precious metals and gold. He landed on the gulf of St. Lawrence in Canada. He claimed the land for France. Jacques Cartier didn't have any children, or a wife but, chose instead to sail and explore the world.

Jacques Cartier left for North America on April 20 with 61 men and two boats. He found a tribe in Canada, the chiefs name, Donnaconna. He searched for Saguenay after getting orders from the king to find a route to Asia. Saguenay was a kingdom he had heard of from the tribe leaders sons he met up with, to find diamonds, silver, and gold. He found naut.

1.) Cartier firsts sees Donnaconna (tribe leader) in the Gulf of St. Lawrence while he was fishing.

2.)Donnaconna sent his two sons with Jacques Cartier when he was ordered to find a new route to Asia.

3.)Donnaconna and his tribe lived in Stadacone, the huron village where Jacques wasstaying for some of his journey.

4.) Canada is a word from Donnaconna's tribe that stood for "village," witch later was used as the countries name.

5.) Jacques wanted to find the city Saguenay, and the chief told him detailed stories and personal happenings, and he belived those stories, weather true or false, and kidnapped Donnaconna and took him to his king to tell the same stories. He did. Donnaconna died before he could lead France to the rich city, so no one knows if really there is one, and if Dannaconna's stories are true.

6.) Jacques Cartier named a hill Mount Royal, and that became the site of modern day Montreal.

     7.)
